Mine did the same thing. I checked my battery & terminals and everything was good. Even tried to jump it off just to be sure and still nothing. I ended up taking the starter off and having it tested at the parts store. Starter was fine....It ended up being the gear shift. It looked like it was in Park, but it wasn't completely.......All this took about 2 hours to diagnose and i had 3 people riding with me. I never told anyone what it really was...lol...i blamed it on a bad starter ground. This gear shift has gotten stuck a few more time since then so it may be common in a s/t

A 2001 Ford Explorer Sport , with the 4.0 liter Single Over Head Cam V6 engine should have ( 4 oxygen sensors )
The Ford 4.0 liter EFI , V6 engine is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ( the 8th " character " of the VIN is an " X " ) The Single Over Head Cam engine is VIN " E " on your 1999 Ford Explorer Sport
over 30mpg on highway and 23.9mpg in urban areas

It maybe the battery if it does not click over
The only factory engine in a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac is the 4.0 liter Single Over Head Cam , V6 engine which has ( 6 engine cylinders )
