Neutering has absolutely nothing to do with it. The cat is simply marking its territory. When cats spray, they leave a scent that warns approachers that the spray site is his property. To stop it, buy a cat pheromone and plug it in (it's like an air freshener you plug into an outlet) where he frequently sprays. He may be spraying becuase he is re-enforcing his claim because of a threat, like a dog, child, or frequent trespasser. The pheromone will calm him down when he comes near, and may not spray. Aslo, place more litter boxes throughout the house in areas that are private, uninterrupted, quiet and easily accessable. Show him these places and he might use them. Hope this helps!

Hi, i have the same problem my cat sprays up walls near catflap, I have been told to get a 'feliway plug' in that keeps cats happy. And a 'feliway spray' to spray where the cat has sprayed on wall. First you must wash wall with washing powder and water to get rid of smell or they will do it again. My cat is male and was neutered at 8 months old, hes 3 years old now and hes still spraying up walls. I think heres worried about others cats coming in, that why hes doing. I will try this feliway stuff, lets hope it works. Hi, i have the same problem my cat sprays up walls near catflap, I have been told to get a 'feliway plug' in that keeps cats happy. If your cat is spayed it should be unable to spray. Sometiafter spaying your cat may be able to spray for a week or two but once it loses all its male hormones it will not be able to anymore

No, it can't. Spraying is due to stress, probably due to just moving, a new baby or a new animal. To stop it from spraying, try to reduce the cat's stress level.

neuter it. Almost all un-neutered male cats spray to mark territory. Some neutered males will also spray, but it's a lot less common.

Is having a pet rabbit indoors unhealthy because of its urine feces and spraying can spaying or neutering a rabbit stop it from spraying is rabbit fur dangerous to humans to inhale or ingest?

Rabbits are no more harmful to human beings than cats are PLUS rabbits do not carry any diseases that can be transferred to humans. If done in time, just like with cats, neutering will prevent a male rabbit from spraying. However, just like cats, if a male rabbit has started spraying having him neutered will stop the spraying in 50% of the cases.

Can a male cat spray because a female dog is in heat in the house?

It is very unlikely he is spraying specifically because your dog is on heat. However, any stressful factors can cause cats to spray, and the dog's mood changes and unusual smells may be causing the spraying behaviour. Entire male cats are very likely to spray for no specific reason, and tom cats should always be neutered. A vet can give you advice on neutering, and on products or environmental changes to help reduce spraying.

Do cats in the wild get spayed or neutered?

Yes, because this will help prevent spraying and the "caterwauling" associated with the cat coming into heat/estrus. Also, spaying or neutering a house cat will prevent or stop any spraying and risks of cancers and other illnesses intact or non-fixed cats can develop at a later age.

Where could one get free cats from shelters?

The best way to get free cats from shelters is by calling or visiting the local shelter. There is sometimes a small fee to cover shots and spaying or neutering.

Do neutered cats attract other cats?

In most cases, they don't. This is because other cats consider a neutered cat ''genderless'' which may seem kind of crazy in real life, but that's actually true. Neutering your cat will decrease the risks of it getting into cat fights, and will stop it spraying.

How does neutering your cat help?

Neutering your cat helps because it can't have babies and there won't be as many hungry and stray cats in the world If you neuter your cat, not only will he stop spraying (unless there's a territorial issue within the house or something else he is upset about), become less aggressive, and help not increase the amount of cats homeless, he will also live longer by about 2-3 years.

Can 7 month old cats have kittens?

Absolutely! Cats can go into heat as early as 5 months. That's why it's recommended to spay/neuter your cat somewhere between 3-4 months. In addition to avoiding a cat's unwanted pregnancy, spaying/neutering your cats will help it from developing spraying behavior and aggressive tendencies.

Why do cats spray?

A cat spraying is an instinct that male cats have to mark their territory. Whatever they're spraying on, it means "this is mine". There are some deterrents available at your local pet store to prevent this. Spraying is a part of communication among cats, helping to define boundaries and tell other cats whose area is whose. It is also a way of attracting a mate.

How warm should the room be to recover from neutering for an adult cat?
