To India - My Native Land is one of the best poems of Derozio . In this poem , Derozio expresses his grief over the past glory of India . The country has lost it altogether. Time was in the past when the country enjoyed lot of the world of respect & power among the countries of the world . She was almost worshiped by others . Her greatness was accepted by all . But the present appears dark to the poet. Her former glory has disappeared . The monster of slavery had devoured everything . The poet wants the world to know the glorious past of the India through his song . In fact , the poem is full of the noble sentiment of patriotism.

What is the critical analysis of the poem to India your native land?

this poem was written when india was under the British control. in the first eight lines derozio is describing the miserable condition of present India (i.e when derozio was writting this poem).derozio was expelled from his college and the society due to his unorthodox views. he did not write anything or compose any song in praise of india as india was bounded by the chains of slavery. he only narrated the miserable condition of india.in the last sis lines of the poem derozio says that he wants to delve deep into the oceans of time (i.e go back to india's past) and bring all the heritage and glory india had once lost. He wants india to regain her highest point and her self respect. he says that he can do everything for his motherland india but in return he does not want any materialistic reward but wants to be remembered by the people of the country as a true and great patriot......
