Here are some additional tips: (more directed towards a guy)

--Make sure to take more than enough money to cover the entire outing. If you go to a sit down restaurant (not fast food) , be sure to have enough to cover a 15% tip. If your date offers to pay, let her know that's it's your pleasure to pay for the outing.

---Cover all the basics of hygeine---shower, brush, floss and mouthwash, clean and neat clothing and shoes. Put on very little cologne or perfume---it can be more powerful than you think! Don't remind your date of Pepe le Pew!

---Pick up or meet your date at precisely the time you set--not 15 minutes early, not 15 minutes late. If you both are teenagers, ask her if her parents have a curfew for her; be sure to take her home before that time.

---Take your date somewhere--such as a restaurant or a coffee shop--that encourages conversation, even if you do have plans to go to a movie or event before or after the meal. Keep in mind that a noisy, crowded place, like a movie, a concert or sports event doesn't give you the chance to talk and get to know eachother.

---Plan the outing in advance, and call and let your date know the agenda the day before your date, so she can dress appropriately. If your date says she doesn't like a certain restaurant or aspect of the outing, propose some other places or venues. Ask if there any places she enjoys going.

---Have good manners. Open car doors and doors for her, let her be seated at the restaurant first. Common sense, but don't belch, fart, pick your nose or anything else you wouldn't do when you're trying to make a good impression. Say, "Excuse me for a moment," if you need to use the restroom. Enjoy your meal at a leisurely pace; don't scarf down your food. Turn off your cell phone. Don't use your cell or text while on the date; it makes you appear uninterested in the date itself. Always be polite to servers at the restaurant.

---Act calm and confident (even if you don't feel that way!) Don't be afraid to joke and use humor (not mean humor or directed at your date). Be upbeat. Don't complain--about the meal, family, friends, etc.

---Be attentive. Ask about your date's interests, and listen intently. Actually be interested in what your date is saying. Do talk about yourself, but don't get into a long winded biography or yourself. (And yes, this advice is long winded. . .)

---Don't tackle the deep topics right off---the philosophy of humanity or the reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire. Ask them how their day went, what classes they enjoy and what classes they hate. Talk about music, sports, books, things you enjoy. Hopefully you'll find common ground with them.

---At the end of the date, if you feel things went well and they seem to agree, there's nothing wrong with giving them a quick kiss or a hug. Let them know you enjoyed the outing and would love to do it again. Wait a couple of days, then call them and let them know you had a lot of fun and would certainly enjoy another outing.

---If you don't feel the date went so well, don't beat yourself up over it! No one's an expert at dating and not everyone connects; just be polite, say you had a great time and leave it at that.
