Greenpeace
The Rainbow Warrior was the flagship of the conservationist organisation Greenpeace.
Greenpeace was founded in Vancouver, Canada. Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organization. Greenpeace evolved from the peace movement and anti-nuclear protests in Vancouver, British Columbia, in the early 1970s. On September 15, 1971, the newly founded Don't Make a Wave Committee sent a chartered ship, Phyllis Cormack, renamed Greenpeace for the protest, from Vancouver to oppose United States testing of nuclear devices in Amchitka, Alaska. The Don't Make a Wave Committee subsequently adopted the name Greenpeace.
Greenpeace activists oppose whaling. Greenpeace believes that the whale watching industry will be more profitable (and environmentally beneficial) than the whaling industry. The organisation has stated that science does not justify killing whales.
No, they sometimes do illegal stuff to make a point, but the organisation itself is not illegal.
Their mission statement, about us section, and goals do not include any affiliation to a higher power. They appear to be secular.
