A Toyota Camry is never going to be fast, ever. Changing the gearing will not help this very basic fact.

My 85 year old father has one

The engine at that mileage should be run gently and the automatic gear box allowed to do its own thing

The engine will still go to max rpm and survive, but not very often and not for long with out a serious failure.
