For those that prefer total quiet find a place in your home or dorm that is quiet and if that's impossible homework can be done in a library where it's very quiet or during the day at a favorite cafe or another area that individual feels at peace. * Although caffeine such as coffee, tea, Hot Chocolate or pop can keep one awake it can also make a person jittery if one drinks too much, so cut back on the caffeine. * Have good lighting while studying. Poor lighting can strain the eyes and thus make the person feel sleepy. * If you are studying hard and things aren't working out and you have a deadline, take the time out and go for a walk or do something else you enjoy for at least half an hour. You may feel you are giving up a precious half hour of studying, but scientific studies have shown that by walking away and doing something else one likes it refreshes the person and they are ready to go at it full force again and get more done. * If the individual smokes Marijuana then stop! Marijuana relaxes the individual, but also can make them feel very sleepy. * If you do your studying after dinner don't start studying immediately, but go for a jog; go outside and do a few hoops if you play Basketball and then start studying. You are less likely to feel tired from eating. * Always eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't miss meals! Low blood sugars can occur making the person feel sluggish and the mind feel muddled. Protein should be high on their dietary list of foods. * If you can't seem to concentrate then choose a good friend and study together so you can help each other. Don't be afraid to have a few laughs in the process and lay back and take a break. Don't study with a boyfriend or girlfriend as this is distracting and not much will be accomplished. * Yoga or stretching is a good way to rest the mind so one can concentrate.

Concentration depends a good deal on your motivation - if you want to concentrate, you will do better. Concentration includes focusing on the material, listening and watching, and thinking about what you are learning. Focusing involves "tuning out" any distractions, or moving away to a quiet place where you can concentrate better. Pay attention to what you are studying, and if a distraction occurs, either move away or re-focus your attention to the study material. Listening and watching seem obvious, but you can improve your observation skills by pointing your eyes toward what you are listening to - this points your ears in the right direction so that you can hear better! You can improve your watching skills by ignoring any distracting sights around you, and focusing on whatever you are supposed to be studying. As you study, think about what you are learning and make sure that you understand everything - use a dictionary or glossary to look up terms that you don't know.

  • make sure your electronic devices are turned off (iPod, cellphone, laptop, etc)
  • clean your study environment (throw away trash, magazines, makeup, etc)
  • study in a quiet, peaceful environment (far away from tv, family, friends, etc)

do not try to concentrate. Just focus on nothing and in doing that you will be able to focus. It is called meditation. After meditating it will be just like you took a stimulant and you will be able to focus. Coffee is another less effective way. The chemical pathway is not the best, use the mind pathway.

Make a schedule which may include subjects which are hardest to you in the front. Study in study table and not on bed, floor. Studying environment is the best thing to matter. So improve your studying environment by making it clean. If you feel bored after studying for a long while, take a 5 minutes break, but not more than that. Try to study in the very mornings, to improve your habit of getting up in early time. Keep all your books and copies within your reach so that you`re not distracted while studying. If music helps you, keep any radio or cellphone on and listen to music in a quieter volume. For some people this solution may help but for some it does not. Keep a snack nearby so that you don't get up in search of food while reading. Revise well before exams.
