I also had a membrane sweep today. I am 37.5 weeks along, 3 cm open and 80% effaced. This is my 3rd child. Even though my cervix is soft and almost all the way ripe, it's still very far and hard to reach. My doc said that if my body is ready for labor anyway, it will stimulate labor within about 2 days. If my body isn't ready, nothing will happen besides cramping and maybe some light spotting. My mucus plug has also come out. Good luck!
you can be dilated for months before you actually go into labor.
Yes, very likely. Some doctors will tell you that at 5cm, you are in labor. Wait for those regular contractions, then go in.
The onset of labor can be determined by measuring how much the cervix has dilated.
If your contractions are three min. apart then you probably already are in labor especially if you are already dilated and 80% effaced. If the contractions aren't regular then you aren't in labor but if it turns out that your not then you will most likely be going into labor really soon.
You don't have to be effaced or dilated to go into labor. But this could mean u will be waiting for the bundle of joy little longer! Good luck!
Cervix
You shouldn't be having sex when you are dilated and or after 9 months pregnant. It could be dangerous to the unborn child. As for your question, It probably could bring on labor.
No. I have been dilated to 3 cm for over a week now. I was at 4 cm when I was induced with my first. My doctor said that one lady came in dilated to 10 cm (that's completely dilated) and was not in labor yet. She had to be induced.
Is 4 cm considered active labor ?
The baby probably isn't ready yet. Where I went to the hospital if you were 5cm dialated they would keep you and induce labor. you can be zero dilated and be in labor. As soon as your muscles start contracting you are in labor and have pains.
Walking!
