Harriet Tubman was a slave. She escaped slavery. But instead of leaving for the North. She helped other slaves escape too. She helped the slaves escape by using the Underground Railroad.
In 1850 Harriet Tubman returned to free her family and that was the first of her other nineteen trips.
To help free slaves.
John Tubman did not beat Harriet Tubman, according to my sources. He threatened to tell Harriet's master that she ran away if she did. Harriet was angry and ran away anyway. I am still confused because John Tubman was a free black so i thought he would want to help slaves escape. John Tubman still didn't beat Harriet Tubman.

Harriet Tubman was born Araminta "Minty" Ross to slave parents, Harriet ("Rit") Green and Ben Ross. Her parents were owned by Mary Brodess, and by Mary's second husband Anthony Thompson, respectively. Although she married a free man, John Tubman, in 1844, she did not escape from slavery until 1849, fleeing from Maryland to Pennsylvania, a free state. She returned, beginning in 1850, to help her family and others escape.
