In one way, the 'revolutionary vision' of Thomas Jefferson has been achieved in America, namely, in terms of publicly expressed concern for including the 'ordinary majority' of Americans in political decision-making, with that concern backed in some ways by the inclusion of the majority in governance. In another way, the Jeffersonian vision has been very much set aside, namely, in terms of the thrifty and limited central (or, federal) government that Jefferson believed to be most fitting for the grand American 'experiment' in republican-representative government.

Has Jefferson's revolutionary vision been achieved?

The 'revolutionary vision' of Thomas Jefferson encompassed a wide variety of important social and political elements. In respect to one, increased power and influence of the ordinary majority, it can be said that contemporary America demonstrates considerable 'Jeffersonian' respect for the 'ordinary majority' in its political processes. In respect to another, a thrifty and limited central (or, federal) government, it must be admitted that contemporary America is not at all 'Jeffersonian,' given its national debt and the large number of its federal governing agencies and their far-reaching influence.
