No. There were no such things as birth certificates at the time the constitution was written. The Constitution merely requires that the President be a natural born citizen without specifying what, if any, sort of proof is required. Barack Obama is the first President in U.S. history to show his birth certificate. Ronald Reagan, by contrast, who was born at home, didn't even get a birth certificate until 1991, 2 years after he had left office. There's no requirement that a President show a birth certificate--a document that didn't even exist at the time the Constitution was written.

Yes.

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

No, I don't think you should have to show your birth certificate to be President, especially if you're already president. In fact Barack Obama is the first President in U.S. history to show his birth certificate. Ronald Reagan, who was born at home, didn't even have a birth certificate until 1991, two years after he had left office.

Why is there a birth certificate in Kenya for Barack Obama?

There isn't a Kenyan birth certificate for President Obama. That was a hoax. On the other hand, there is a Kenyan birth certificate for his father, who was in fact born in Kenya. President Obama, however, was born in Hawaii, a fact that has been thoroughly documented.

Did President Obama have to show his birth certificate to become a US Senator from Illinois?

No. The constitution only states that people running for the Senate or House meet age and state/district requirements. Naturalized citizens can be in the legislative branch. No other president as been asked to produce his birth certificate to prove his is a citizen. It is a bogus charge. It is only in the office of the President that a requirement of native US citizen is enforced.

Can you tell me the best place to get a replacement birth certificate and is there a cost?

Don't worry, it will be very easy to get a replacement birth certificate. First of all you must have the details relating to your birth. If you have the no of previous birth certificate it would be easier. The place which take the action would depend on the countries and it is normally the government regional office.

Does Barack Obama have to present his birth certificate before he can be elected President?

No, a President is not required to provide a copy of a birth certificate, however, Barack Obama has and he was the first President ever to do so. His birth certificate has been validated by the Republican Governor of Hawaii. Presidents are, however, vetted to determine their eligibility, so this has been thoroughly investigated and it has been determined that he is qualified and eligible to hold the office.

What does President Barack Obama's 'long form' birth certificate prove?

Why doesn't Barack Obama have a birth certificate?

He does. This question has been answered many times, but some people, called "Birthers," refuse to accept the answer. Barack Obama has a legal birth certificate, proving that he was in fact born in Hawaii in 1961; many reporters, politicians, and family members have personally seen it. The former governor of Hawaii (Republican) saw it and said it was genuine; the current governor (Democrat) knew the president's mom when she was still living in Hawaii, and he says the birth certificate is genuine. Factcheck.org, snopes.com and politifact.com (just to name a few) have thoroughly verified the birth certificate. Yet this question continues to be asked. To sum up: the president was born in Hawaii. He has a legal and valid birth certificate that shows his birth at a hospital in Hawaii. He was not born anywhere except Hawaii.

Is an authorized birth certificate the same as a certified birth certificate?
