The Crank position sensor will need to be "re-learned" if the PCM or engine control unit is removed or replaced. this could also happen if the batery ever reached a completely depleated state. The re-learnng procedure is simple... if you are a dealership. All that needs to be done is have the car plugged into a GM Tech II, and the instructions will come up on screen. I just had to do all of this when i installed an aftermarket PCM. I just had my 2000 Grand Prix GT serviced for the Crank Position Sensor. OBD P1374 code. The problem is/was the wiring from the sensor to the PCM was broken. The mechanic fished a new wire along the wiring harness. Actually he had to do it to another CKP sensor too. Once it was done, the car started a lot better when cold. The shifting in lower gears was smoother. Service engine soon light turned off.
