Modern transportation makes it much easier for emerging viruses to travel around the world and infect people. It makes it easier for emerging viruses to travel around the world because with inventions such as planes, if one person has the virus, they are now a carrier for the virus. In a plane, air is recycled, so if the virus is airborne, the virus can potentially infect many people on that plane. Also that plane will land in a different place from where it took off so the carrier would be bringing the virus to a new place. It makes it easier to infect people because with modern transportation like buses and public transit, people are much closer together and easier to infect because of the proximity of each other. These factors attributed by modern transportation give the virus a boost in infecting and spreading.

∙ 14y agoPerhaps not the way they are spread but the quantity of people exposed is increased with mass transit of today as well as with travel in crowded airports and other busy transportation hubs.
