51 years with eating disorder and high protein?

There is nothing wrong with having a high protein diet....that does not exactly mean someone has an eating disorder. It is also very uncommon to have an eating disorder at such an old age (most instances occur between the ages of 12 and 28). Regardless, anyone with an eating disorder should seek help / treatment immediately and follow a well-balanced and healthy diet.

Can eating disorder and disordered eating be used interchangeably?

Usually, yes. Eating disorder implies a more specific problem. Disorded eating is more of a broad and loose term. interchangeably not really an Eating Disorder is a full blown psychological illness Disordered Eating is often used when its not yet full blown...or when the person is in recovery but still struggling a little. The problem is most people in western society has disordered eating....it can be considered disordered when the person is constantly dieting ("Yo Yo dieting") or just plain isn't eating healthy..which is everyone.....I don't like to use "Disorder Eating" when talking about Eating Disorders....they are different..Disordered Eating isn't severe and doesnt usually require professional help whereas Eating Disorders are serious deadly addictions that require years of professional help...the problem with disordered eating is it can easily become an Eating Disorder

How can you gain an eating disorder?

Take it from one who's been there, an eating disorder is NOT something you want!! Eating disorders can cause damage to your heart, esophagus, stomach, intestines, teeth (they can make your teeth fall out), and many other body parts. They can be fatal. They make a person's appearance go downhill rapidly. To this day I have stomach and digestive problems because of an eating disorder. Once I ended up in the emergency room with an esophageal spasm, a spasm of the esophagus, because of purging. Please do not go down that path. MorbidHunger: You can't "gain" or "make yourself" get an eating disorder its is a Mental illness. This is like saying "how do I make myself get schizophrenia/bipolar/autism spectrum disorder/etc?"...you cant. It develops over many many years usually starting in childhood/early adolescence.

Who is affected by a eating disorder?

I've been diagnosed with an eating disorder (anorexia). People like me generally don't do it because we just want to be thin, we do it because we need to find some sort of grasp or control over something, so we chose food. Lots of people say that we're stupid because we do it just because we want to be thin, I'd never do this in a million years if i just wanted to be thin, it's a cry for help... And it's most certainly not something that can go away overnight, on average it takes someone 6-7 years, to fully recover from an eating disorder. It's roughly estimated that 10-25% of people that suffer with an eating disorder will die from the disease due to medical complications
