Have a Dell 966 printer Is there a Lexmark cartridge that will work?

The answer seems to be "no" - I bought the Lexmark version of this cartridge, and it doesn't work - the chip on it causes the printer to read "invalid cartridge". Some older versions used an additional slot to differentiate between Dell and Lexmark, but they've now gone down the hardware route and there doesn't seem to be a way around it.
That means you have to order from Dell, and I need to print today. $50 from Office Depot down the drain and no other option. I'm selling this POS printer and buying one from a company that doesn't so blatantly screw its customers.

Lexmark X6570 <---- Does not work! Update: I bought the X6750 ink cartridge and tried to use it in my Dell 948. The cartridges do look identical, but the X6570 (No. 42 or 44) does NOT work in the Dell 948. Don't waste your money. I suspect Dell has rigged the cartridge in some way so that you must buy their ink exclusively for them to make a profit off the ink. This is very common. They sell the printer for $30 bucks and then charge $30 a pop for the ink which is extremely cheap for them to produce. Pure profit. It's a bait and switch game.

No it won't fit your machine. The Z705 takes the Lexmark #55 black ink cartridge. Just because a cartridge looks and maybe is the same size as another does not mean it will work in another printer. Ink cartridges have a specific connectors and chips that will only work in certain printers. Also the type of ink and nozzle size are also designed specifically for certain printers.I suggest looking around online and buy the Lexmark #55 black ink cartridge.

Some people have had success with the Lexmark X9350 drivers for Mac OS X (See links below) with a Dell 966. The Dell printer needs to be set up to work wirelessly from the panel on the printer. But the whole thing seems to be a bit hit and miss with no guarantee of success.

Sadly No. Lexmark make each cartridge model different so that no universal chip resetter will work. They also make some with chips that are intended to be replaced by Lexmark when they refill them and sell them as new once again.

Don't. Can't. This printer borders on one of the biggest pieces of junk I have ever purchased. I would recommend anything but an HP, and I never thought I would ever say that. Get a Dell printer, what are they a Lexmark? I reinstalled an old lexmark myself and tossed the HP. No one can fix it.
