To be honest, if he only wants you as a friend and he's with someone else, then he is not perfect for you, even if your personalities and likes match. So where do you go from here? Continue being friendly toward him, without expecting the relationship to grow into something more. That doesn't mean that it never will, but at least you won't be wasting your time hoping in something that may never happen. Can you still be friends? That's probably up to you and whether you allow your crush on him to conflict with genuine friendship.
