had a similar problem with Dodge Caravan, tried all sorts of thing like changing heater core, thermostat ,heater control valve and pulling radiator and flushing entire system turns out the the fins on the water pump were worn down and wouldn't pump the coolant didn't think it could have been pump as it was replaced not even a year ago hope this helps good luck
The Lasko heaters come with their own thermostats, which read out on the top of the units.
your thermostat is most likely stuck open. replace it ,,before ol' man winter comes!
AnswerBad thermostat, clogged heater core, or a defective heater control switch. If an engine has not been running long it will not have warmed up, the warmth from a car heater usually comes from the engine.
The usual reasons for this problem is a faulty thermostat or heater core. If the car constantly shows cool or cold (compared to normal) on the temperature guage you can be pretty sure that the thermostat is at fault (cheap part but sometimes a pain to change). If the only symptom of a problem is that lack of heat then the heater core is a pretty good place to start looking.
i had the same problem w/my 97 avenger its a clogged heater core if u take the hose off from the fiewall and use a hose to unclog the heater core u should be all set.also thermostat can be gone id do thermostat then heater core
follow the bottom right hand pipe to underneath the engine remove pipe and then remove thermostat housing and replace thermostat the same way as it comes out.
Well, this could be a variety of problems, including the thermostat. Check fluid levels. See if your water pump is leaking. Heater core lines may be clogged. Flush the system, and CHANGE the thermostat. Try to get all the air out of the system. I would have a hard time believing that if you are only blowing cold air, and your engine is responding correctly and the idle is not going up and down, your heater core is probably blocked.
unbolt it from under the hood of the car and then it comes out inside the car to change the core.
The dash has to be removed to gain access to the heater box. The heater box then comes out and is split open to replace the core.
The heated coolant from the engine comes out of the fitting nearest the thermostat, then enters the lower heater hose nipple (or the smaller of the two nipples) then the coolant comes out of the heater and returns into the fitting on the water pump. All fittings and hoses attached to the water pump are return lines.
You have a bad heater core the heater core is a small radiator type unit under the dash of your car that sends hot water from the cooling system runs through a fan blows on it and warm air comes out. It is in the cab under the dash and it is leaking that why you smell "hot water" You need a experienced mechanic or get a book Chiltons if you what to fix it yourself
First make sure the radiator is full of coolant ;this is where the heat comes from. If it is full , then change your cars thermostat. The stat is located at the lower end of the top radiator hose within the water outlet. That should do it.
