how old is the astra? but more importantly what engine and gearbox does it have? early engines with certain manual gearboxes you can change the clutch without removing the gearbox and subsequently saving about 4hours labour time. otherwise it is a gearbox outjob.

Clutch will not disengage?

If it's a hydraulic clutch, try bleeding the slave cylinder. Manual linkage, try adjusting the clutch. If no help, something's wrong with the pressure plate and you need a new clutch.

Can anyone help you find a new clutch for your 2000 Chevy Prism?

I recently purchased a new clutch kit for a 1998 Prizm (which should be the same) from Oreilly Auto Parts for $99.00. This kit included the cluch plate, pressure plate and bearing. Hope that helps.

1999 Ranger clutch overheated pulling load up long steep hill Won't shift anymore Can shift into gear with engine off but clutch engages when released at floor level from that point won't shift. HELP?

The clutch has overheated and burnt the pressure plate. The clutch and pressure plate will both probable need to be replaced. If this model has the Mazda transmission then the slave cylinder is probably located inside of the bell housing and should be replaced at the same time.

Help please 89 Geo Metro Took out transmition to replace clutch pressure plate ect and after I put it all back together the clutch works fine but it won't go into 1st 2nd or reverse any suggestions?

I had a somewhat similar problem on a '90 Geo Metro when I changed out the clutch & associated parts. It turned out after much frustration that the rebuilt pressure plate design was no good. It used many smaller clutch release fingers that weren't stiff enough to lift the pressure plate off the clutch disc when the clutch pedal was depressed. They deflected way too much. I had to pull it all back apart!!&*^$%$%$**!, then reinstall another mfg.'s pressure plate with fewer (8, if I remember) much stiffer release fingers, which worked fine. It sounds to me as though you may have a similar problem in which the clutch isn't fully releasing, making 1st, 2nd & reverse shifts impossible.

After a long drive your 1997 ford ranger manual transmission clutch would not engage I could shift freely between all the gears and when i tried to accelerate all i got was engine rev Help me?

It sounds as though you have a burned out clutch plate. The only way to fix it is to replace it. this involves dropping the gearbox in order to get out the old plate and replace it with a new one.

Have a 1998 s-10 that wont startif you push start in gear it will fire and runthe clutch pedal is really softcould you have blown the slave cylinderany help appreciated?

A weak slave cylinder can make the clutch soft or spongy, along with a wore clutch plate. If vehicle will not start could be starter, or your neutral switch is faulty.

How to change Chevy Metro clutch pressure platethrow out bearing?

Replacing the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing on a Chevy Metro is a relatively straightforward process. You will need a few basic tools such as a set of sockets and a ratchet a torque wrench and a clutch alignment tool. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you replace the clutch components on your Metro:Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable to prevent any electrical shocks.Disengage the transmission and remove the driveshaft. This is done by removing the bolts located on the front and rear of the transmission.Remove the bell housing bolts and the starter. Next lower the transmission and place it aside.Remove the pressure plate and the throw out bearing. This is done by removing the bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel.Install the new throw out bearing on the transmission input shaft. Make sure to align the bearing with the splines on the shaft.Install the new pressure plate on the flywheel and tighten the bolts to the correct torque specification. This should be done in a crisscross pattern.Reinstall the transmission driveshaft and starter. Make sure to torque the bell housing bolts to the correct specification.Once the transmission is installed reattach the negative battery cable.Once this process is complete you will have successfully replaced the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing on your Chevy Metro.
