the Honda CR-V is a great car with a high-pitched horn which sounds just like the Roadrunner (meep, meep!). Why, I dont know. What to do about it? follow the directions below. this is actually a relatively easy do-it-yourself job that doesnt take a lot of automotive skill. this can be done by one person in about 90 minutes start to finish, although having two people to remove and replace the front bumper makes thing easier. if you can find a copy of the instructions for installing CR-V fog lights, this will have a picture of how to remove the radiator cover and front bumper. tools needed: flathead screwdriver Phillips head screwdriver 10mm wrench if installing aftermarket horn: $7 wire crimping tool from Radio Shack which will allow wire cutting, stripping and crimping. connectors recommended by horn manufacturer. electrical tape 1. open hood. 2. remove battery bracket nut and move bracket arm. 3. use flathead screwdriver to remove 7 clips holding down radiator cover. 4. remove radiator cover and set aside. 5. to remove front bumper, remove two top clips, two bottom clips, two bottom 10mm bolts and two self-tapping screws (use Phillips head screwdriver) on the upper corners of the bumper (located in front wheel well). 6. front bumper should now come off freely. Place to the side. 7. horns should now be visible on each side. 8. for each horn, remove the one 10mm bolt holding it to the frame. 9. unhook connector. 10. gleefully discard horn. 11. attach new horn, either aftermarket or horn from a different honda. 12. if using an aftermarket horn, may need to splice on different connector. a. the stock wire is 16 gauge, positive lead. b. cut off old connector, strip wire down to copper, crimp on new connector. c. if negative lead is then needed, bolt this to any metal-on-metal bolt that is visible for proper grounding and connect to horn. 14. do the same for the horn on the other side. 15. test horns. 16. replace bumper, making sure bumper goes over the wheel well trim and all bolt/clip holes line up all the way around before attaching any bolts, clips or screws. 17. screw in self-tapping screws to secure bumper corners. 18. replace bottom bolts. 19. replace top and bottom clips. 20. replace radiator cover. 21. replace radiator cover clips. 22. place battery bracket back in place and bolt down. 23. close hood. 24. use horn freely without the previous embarrassment suffered with stock horn.
