The Hellenistic Period was post-Alexander the great, whose Macedonian generals divided his empire into kingdoms of their own we call the Hellenistic kingdoms. These rulers encouraged Greek culture, which was active amongst the upper class of Macedonians and Greeks. The lower classes continued their own cultures.
