The main force that brought Islam to North Africa were the Umayyad Armies who conquered all of the North African States. Islam penetrated deeper into the continent over successive centuries through peaceful mercantile contacts with Sub-Saharan Africans.

∙ 8y agoOther than Islam spreading by conversion in Africa due to its arrival there, two main results occurred:
1) Technological and Social Advancement of African Civilization: The Muslims who came to West Africa brought systems of writing, bureaucracy, academia, medieval weapons, and medieval science to Africa. As a result, civilizations in Africa could expand over more territory and maintain records to a degree never-before conceived.
2) Trade between North Africa and West Africa: The arrival of Muslims in West Africa helped facilitate a long-distance Trans-Saharan Trade. Gold and slaves left West Africa for North Africa, while salt, iron, and weapons made their way from North Africa to West Africa.
