20 minutes or so. If you have the heater core in hand it is a simple simple simple job.
First of all drain the coolant a little bit, just enough that it is out of the hoses in the heater tubes. Once that is done, remove the hoses from the heater core tubes at the firewall. Then under the dash board are 4 screws holding the bottom of the plenum on. Remove these screws and set the cover aside. Pull the heater core rearward and it will fall out.
Installation is just a matter of sliding the new core up inside and pushing the tubes through the holes in the firewall. when this is done put the cover back on, reattach the hoses and fill the radiator.
Done.
I had this problem before on a ranger you have to pull the dash board out and it will be right there.

On my 1994 Ranger, the heater core is directly underneath the glove box. All you do is crawl underneath the glove box, losen 4 screws in plastic housing, and pull the housing off. Make sure to losen to hoses underneath the hood located on the firewall to drain the antifreeze. Once this is done pull out the heater core. Mine was fairly easy and took under an hour. I hope this helps somebody. 1993 and 1994 Ford Rangers have the easy out Heater core anything after you have to take the entire console out with the dash.
