Punjab is a state in North India and its inhabitants are known as Punjabi's. The Sikh religion hails from Punjab and is one of the most prominent religions in the region. The Golden Temple, the most holy place for Sikhs is located in Amritsar, Punjab. Other prominent religions are Islam and Hinduism.

In Sikhism, there is only one God, who is formless and all pervasive,

and who cannot take human form. The goal of life is to reach God. People can

reach God by meditating and following the Guru's teachings, and by doing

charitable work. In Sikhism, people should remember God everyday and perform

meditation. Sikhs reject ritualism such as religious vegetarianism and yoga,

and only perform meditation to the Guru, not idols or things. In addition,

there is no discrimination based on caste, race or sex in Sikhism. Doing

charity work and community service is vital in Sikhism. Sikhs must share with

others, and earn their living with hard work and not by begging. In Sikhism,

one must live a truthful life.

The place of worship for Sikhs (sikh temples) are known as Gurdwara's (meaning gatewayway to the guru) and their holy text is known as the Guru Granth Sahib or Adi Granth. It is considered the final and eternal Guru of the Sikhs.
