No. You need to link it up first. You have to find the little circle button on the guitar and then also on the xbox 360 and push them both at the same time. Once you do that, the controller's power button should flash and then it should be linked.

I use Controller so I can only give rough explanations, but one thing I can say is make sure you are comfortable with the hand layout. • Ignore the Easy difficulty and go straight to Medium. I know it sounds scary and, yes, you will fail alot of songs but this is the way I learnt to use the Guitar and Controller. === === Index Finger: Green Middle Finger: Red Ring Finger: Yellow Little Finger: Blue == == • Now that you have mastered the Medium layout, and (I recommend completeing Medium career first) can move your fingers quick enough, it's time to use that Orange fret button. An easy song to practice Hard/ Expert with is Cult Of Personality, a lot of Hammer-On's and Pull-Off's (Refer to in-game training for deep explanations).
