Thoreau believed that people in America could end slavery by refusing to support it financially or morally, and by advocating for individual conscience and civil disobedience. He believed that by speaking out against the institution of slavery and actively resisting it, individuals could bring about its end in the country.
One reason Thoreau argues that paying taxes is a violent measure is because he believes that the government uses the money to fund activities like war and the expansion of slavery, which go against moral principles. By willingly paying taxes, individuals are complicit in these actions and, according to Thoreau, are supporting violence.
Thoreau predicted that slavery would eventually collapse because it was morally wrong and unsustainable. He believed that people's conscience and sense of justice would lead to the abolition of slavery.

Slavery had a huge impact on American society, and it still has. Especially in the South of America was a lot of slavery. Black people were seen as inferior and white people really thought they were not capable of thinking. During the Civil War, the North was against slavery and the South wasn't. Many people died to fight for the abolishment of slavery. Finally slavery was abolished and black people were free. However, blacks were still seen as an inferior race. Also, the difference in the North and South can still be seen in America. As a black person you can often be called the N-word in Southern America.
