Most bacteria are "helpful bugs." More than 99% of bacteria that are on our skin and in our digestive tract are friendly. We have millions per square inch all over our bodies. We don't even notice them, and the ones in our digestive tract actually help us digest our food.

You could say that without bacteria our entire human race could become extinct. You see, there are a special class of bacteria that like to live only on adult humans, and are attracted to the sweat that we excrete in our armpits and pubic areas. Their waste products, mixed with our own odors, produces what people call body odor. Scientists have found that this odor is actually part of the attraction between males and females. So, selecting a mate depends on these special bacteria that we grow after puberty.

So, we may have to thank these little creatures for helping us reproduce and continue the human species. I would say that they are very useful.

Bacteria can be useful, because doctors can inject different types of bacteria into your body, and your body fights against it, and that will mean if you get that type of bacteria into your system, it will be able to fight against it more easily.

By the way, some bacteria on your skin protect it from other bacterias. Not all of them are bad, plus the fact that did you know that bacteria is used to make ointment for wounds? Back then they pressed moldy bread to wounds!!!
