Cave paintings are historical and graphic representations of the past. Some cave paintings in south Texas are over 5000 years old. The pictographs explain major events in the area, in essence, the history of the area.
Cave paintings provide valuable insights into the prehistoric societies that created them, including their daily life, beliefs, and environment. Historians can use cave paintings to understand ancient cultures, their artistry, and possibly their communication systems. They help paint a picture of the past that complements other archaeological and historical sources.
A Historian studies the history of the world. The Archaeologist studies the history of people.
Both historians and archaeologists study past cultures, societies, and events to understand human history. They use various sources such as artifacts, texts, and other remains to reconstruct and interpret the past. Both disciplines aim to provide insights into how civilizations developed and how they have shaped the world we live in today.
The Aztecs wrote on a type of volcanic rock called "basalt." They carved their inscriptions and writings into basalt stelae and monuments to record important events, history, and societal information.
To write a story about the Aztec culture, research is key. Study Aztec history, customs, traditions, and beliefs to accurately portray their way of life. Incorporate elements like gods, temples, rituals, and daily life into your story to make it authentic and immersive.
The era that used to write on walls of stone to record experiences and ideas is known as the Ancient era. This practice of recording on stone walls was common in civilizations such as Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and prehistoric societies. These inscriptions provided valuable insights into the history, culture, and beliefs of these ancient civilizations.

To a certain extent, history is biased. You must remember, the winner of the battle gets to write about it, not the looser. Only a very skilled historian/researcher can unravel conflicting contemporary writings.

Manning Clark was an Australian author and historian. He wrote the six-volume "History of Australia", but he tended to write in a very personal and sometimes rather subjective style.
Shakespeare did in fact write about history, he also wrote about some mythology and he did write about fantasy. Whether you look at Henry V which is at Shakespeare's time a historical figure. Or about Greek Myths, or Egypt's Queen Cleopatra? Shakespeare did in fact write about history in the persona's of the figures of said history. He was not an historian of course he was a Playwright, however, his words were seen by hundreds, they told a story, just like the Greek Plays brought entertainment to the masses.

Plutarch
Herodotus made a living from giving historical lectures. The ones he gave in Athens were so popular he converted them into a history book. This is the only surviving work of his which we have.
I am not sure that it is particularly helpful!
