For a 1997 Ford F-150 , 4.6 liter V8 engine( It has 2 coil packs with 4 spark plug wires connecting to each coil pack )
coil packs are the actual plugs on top of the plug
The coil packs on the 4.6L are located in front of the engine. Follow the spark plug wires.

On a 1999 Ford E-150 , 4.6L : The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 ) The engine cylinder locations are numbered : 4 - 8 3 - 7 2 - 6 1 - 5 front of vehicle * I don't know how the spark plug wires are numbered on the ( 2 ) coil packs *

I'm not a mechanic / technician but I would say ( NO ) I was looking at one of the Ford websites and it shows different part numbers for the ignition coil on a 1995 Ford F-150 The 4.9 ( six cylinder ) takes the ( Motorcraft DG-434 ) ignition coil The 5.0 ( V8 ) takes the ( Motorcraft DG-470 )
The 4.2 liter V6 has ( 1 ) coil pack with 6 towers The 4.6 liter V8 has ( 2 ) coil packs - each with 4 towers The 5.4 liter V8 is COIL ON PLUG - there are 8 individual coils
For a 2008 Ford F-150 , 4.2 liter V6 engine : The firing order is ( 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6 ) The engine cylinder locations are numbered : firewall 3 - 6 2 - 5 1 - 4 front of vehicle -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 6 towers on the COIL PACK are numbered : coil-----3 - 4 pack----2 - 6 plug-----1 - 5
