Computers takes input through input devices like keyboard and mouse. Every actions on or by the input devices are converted into electromagnetic signals. These electrical signals are sent to Signal Processing Units, which converts the analog signal into digital one and transfers it directly to processor or to processor via memory for further processing. Like sensors inside the mouse record every movement of mouse into electrical signals and transfer it to ADC (analog to digital converter.)

There are many methods to input data: direct input via keyboard, mouse movements, reading from a data file (on disk, tape, cards, internet, database, etc.) and so on. In each case, data values are passed to the CPU by loading into registers via assembly commands.

A computer is "something that computes", or more directly "something that performs calculations." In order to perform calculations, data is fed in (the input, or information), which is processed against some algorithm (a defined set of steps to arrive at a result from a given input), and the result is then output. This part satisfies the "information processing" part of the definition of a computer. A "machine" is simply a device or tool that is designed to perform work. Computers are built of hardware, and use energy to perform its work, thus fulfilling the definition of a machine. In summation, we can indeed call computers "information processing machines," which is a definition of what a computer is.
