i am a horse rider myself and have so far been riding for 7-8 years i am now 13 but am a very experianced rider.
The key thing to riding is balance. It takes a while to gain this but if you keep practising then you will soon be a great rider. Also keep your heels down!
Getting to know your horse. There is no point in being horrible and neglecting your horse and expecting it to give you a perfect ride. You need to get social with it and become good friends with it before you do anything proper with him/her.
tack( saddle, bridle ect.) You need to have the right gear fitted to the horse. If you are not sure of how to fit your pony/horse with tack then ask a vet, horse trainer, horse teacher.
Feed
You have to make sure your horse has a good, healthy diet before you go out riding. Note: NEVER RIDE YOUR HORSE FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE RIDING AS IT CAN LEAD TO COLIC AND OTHER ILLNESSES!!!
Grooming
Brush and pick out hooves before and after you ride him/her otherwise it can lead to skin rash, sweat rash, mud rash, alsores and other painfull injurys.
I hope this has been helpful

Take care of your horse!!!!
There are many different ways of riding a horse and we mainly call these ways "styles". These styles have developed to suit the way of riding for instance you have the side saddle which has been developed so a lady doesn't have to sit astride a horse and ride like a man.
English- This is where you sit astride your horse and have a rien in each hand. This style is most commonly found to be used.
Side Saddle- Where a lady (mainly only lady's ride like this) sits to left of the horse and places her right leg on the stump so it doesn't get in her way.
Western- Western is the most relaxed of styles and doesn't have a strict dress code. With only one hand to control the horse the other hand is free to catch animals and give signals. Also there is a horn to type the ropes to.
Riding horses takes...well, a lot of effort at first. Here are the basics:
1.) to go you kick
2.) to stop you pull back the reins(which are rope-like things that you hold in your hands)
3.) to go right you pull the right rein.
4.) to go left you pull the left rein.
5.) to get on and off always do so on the left side of the horse.
The two main types of riding are English and Western. English includes jumping, dressage, cross country, etc. and Western includes barrel racing, reining, roping, etc. Other stylesof riding include bareback, sidesaddle, or no bridle. These styles aren't types of their own.
Horses are rode by putting a saddle on them(english or western or trick) and are sat on. They are controlled by the riders legs for speed and the reins for direction!
Take lessons. That what they're paid for.
We rode our horses in the parade, is correct.
They horses rode were based on availability. They rode what they could get where they were.
Horses that are rode for pleasure are just that, Pleasure horses. This is not to be confused with English or Western pleasure show horses, they are two different things.
