Repeaters take in a weak signal, regenerate the waveform
and re-transmit it in a higher power level. So their
function is basically to "boost" the signal, so that signal
can cover longer distance without attenuation.
Signal repeaters are generally used in the telecommunication and electronics industries. There can be passive radio signal repeaters, multi-port repeaters, optical signal repeaters for optical fiber and digipeaters which repeat packet data.
The material which is used in furance; boiler; fuse; regenerators;etc are called refractive materials.
Telecommunication is communication over a distance by cable, telegraph, telephone, or broadcasting. Cables are used for telecommunication. Telegraph is one form of telecommunication.

Because - even in fibre-optic cable, distance brings attenuation of the signal. Repeaters boost the data stream to provide a constant signal level.

Either a Bus topology or Wireless repeating, depends on how the question is stated...
Cell repeaters have functions like extension of wireless range. When two hosts are being used, they have to be connected using a MAC (Medium Access Control) and a PHY (Physical Layer) but the connection is too long and to make it easier and shorter, one have to use cell repeaters to bridge the gap.
