Each had a high god and a pantheon. The Hebrews eventually reduced the number of gods, seeking to bring it down to one. To do this they had to centralise it in the temple in Jerusalem at the end of the 6th Century BCE, as the moon goddess Astarte persisted. According to the Old Testament Solomon 'had many gods in his house' and there is a small statue from as late as the 5th Century of Jehovah with his arm around the waist of his consort Astarte. So monotheistic Judaism is quite late, and both the Phoenicians had gods/a god which promoted war and slaughter of opponents. Nothing has changed much with the offspring of Judaism - Christianity and Islam pursuing religious wars through Crusades etc into to modern times.
