These salllites continuously capture high resolution imagery then transmit it to a ground station for processing. The selection of pictures is automated and programmed into the satellite from the ground.
Pictures taken by an astronaut could be taken from a hand-held digital camera. The astronaut in that cause manually focuses the camera on a point of interest and takes the picture.
One process is automated by machine (with instructions from humans) and the other directly by a human.
