The War on Terrorism is nothing like World War 2. In world wars the war involved many countries and continents - meaning they were warring and conducting all out war. In WW2 there were 70 million deaths and Iraq and Afghanistan have not have losses of life even close.

The wars going on in the Middle East are UN conducted for a specific reason - it is a war on terrorism - not a war on many nations - but rather against people groups who are using terrorist tactics around the world not just in the US.

Another way they are different is the protective gear used by the warriors of today. The gear now keeps our UN heroes alive. They have fewer deaths now due to the ability to keep maimed people alive and get them new limbs or rehabilitate their brains when they get hit in the head. Not all can be rehabilitated but the modern medicine of today dances circles around the medical practice of the Forties. The technology of war equipment is also phenomenally worlds apart. We can hit a target without getting close to a target now.
