According to current forecasts (26 August), the NWS is predicting a 50% chance of sustained 40 mph winds across much of Massachusetts. Winds are likely to be higher than that near the coast, but they are predicting that Irene will probably nothave hurricane force (74+ mph sustained) winds by the time it reaches Massachusetts. Many areas in New England may receive 5 to 9 inches of rainfall on Sunday.
