Some of the fish keepers think that they are useful and some invest efforts to get rid of them. Those who think that they are useful call them aquarium bulldozers and praise their ability to eat leafs, dead fish and uneaten food and keep the tank "clean" from troubles. Other fish keepers just can't see their present in the tank and spend time to get rid of them claiming that those snails disfigure the tank, they also say that the snails create new colonies in short time and those colonies create excreta and quickly deteriorating water quality.
It varies radically by the species of snail. The apple or mystery snail is the largest freshwater snail in the world, and can get as big as a softball, and will need at least a 55 gallon. Some species stay quite small and only need a 5 gallon. Make sure you read up on the species of snail to find out how big they get, and that will determine the aquarium you should put them in . Keep in mind that all species of snails love lots of room to roam around, so go for the biggest you can afford or have room for!
they need a tank or a bowl about 1 foot long and 1 deep, or a tin!
the best place would be a tank or vivarium
you will need a gallon for every inch the shubunkins grow you will need at least one gallon for a snail
No it won't hurt any fish but the fish might hurt the snail.
yes, depending on what type of snail. If its a small snail then consider it dead but if its a big ugly snail then it should be fine. In other words, check with the vet. :)
hi there :) if your land snail isn't eating try and get a heat mat it maybe because your snail is too cold. to put it on stick it to the back of your tank and it should be fine. p.s hope your snail is ok :)
Snails cannot be made to stop reproducing. If you want the snail to stop reproducing in your tank, then remove it from the tank.
You can put a snail in a small 5 or 10 gallon fish tank with a screen. Or one of those plastic tanks with removable lid. They need to be in a closed container, but with breathing holes. But holes NOT big enough for the snail to get out.
I have a 10 gallon tank, which is now overun by snails. I purchased an Assasin snail and for more than a month of watching him, he has not done much! I dont think he has killed one snail ( I even put him in a bowl with five snails and they crawled all over him) is my assasin snail broken or what should I expect. How many Assasin's should inhabit a 10 gallon tank? and is there a way to sex them?
Most suckerfish get too big, but an apple snail (same as a mystery snail) or some ramshore snails are awesome.
Yes, it does not really do anything, but is makes it look prettier.
Yes or the snail will take in to muck backteria and die :)
Baby snails are almost transparent as are snail eggs. They can be brought in on plants or even in the water that you have brought fish home in.
