Chinchillas are one of the larger and more energetic of the rodent family so need a large cage about 150cm high and about 75cm wide, this size is best for one-two chinchillas. The cage must have wire sides and a slide out plastic or metal tray is a great bonus!

Juvenile chameleons do best in a cage that measures about 45cm long X 45 cm wide X 45 cm high(45cm = 18 inches). This is so they hunt their prey easily. An older chameleon needs more space and much more height so it can climb the branches you will provide. It is an arboreal creature, so it prefers to be able to climb high. Therefore, the ideal size for an older chameleon is 60 cm long (24 inches) X 60 cm wide X 120 cm high (48 inches, or 4 ft).

Remember that the sides need to be screened, not glass, so that there is enough ventilation. A glass aquarium will not do the job. Avoid fine screening as, when the chameleon climbs on e screen, its nails are likely to get caught in the tiny holes. Larger mesh is better.

Not to big. 2 feet high will do and not at all that wide. But you will need some greenery.

Is it wrong to have a chinchilla?

Personally, I believe they are meant to be left in the wild to live happy and free in the grass with other chinchilla buddies, but if you have a big enough cage ( I mean BIG ) then they can be somewhat happy. If you have a nice grassy back yard with a good fence, then you can allow your chinchilla to roam around under your careful supervision, but otherwise, chinchillas should NOT be placed in cages under 5 ft in length and should not be left to simply sit in their cage forever (a.k.a. until they die).

How big of cage does a chinchilla need?

Always try to get the largest cage possible for your Chinchilla and remember they need space to move around in. Chinchillas love to climb and jump, so it is better to have a cage that is higher than it is wide and you can put up kiln dried wood shevles. The minimum size cage to get would be around 3 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet.
