Unless part of the religious freedom involves the ability to make war on the United States and it's people, then it seems we're still doing very well in protecting religious freedoms.
As far as 'islamophobia', the Muslim religion has often been claimed by radical and violent groups both inside and outside the US. These include the "Nation of Islam", the Black Panthers and Al Qaeda, to name a few.
With violent radicals acting as the visible flag bearers for the Muslim religion, it's unfortunate, but understandable, that the peaceful members get overlooked and the entire community is seen in a negative light.
But this isn't a religious freedom issue, anymore than the fact that a few bad cops steal the limelight from the tens of thousands of cops who do the right thing every day; and the solution is remarkably similar.
