In short- you may not be able to. Some version of the Model 81 was made from 1937-1980. Model 81s made prior to 1968 will not have serial numbers (not required by law until 1968). Without a serial number, the date of manufacture cannot be accurately determined. Sorry-

Send me the serial # so I can tell you which year it was manufactured.
The Marlin 336 can be dated by serial number, including any letter prefix. But since you did not give us a serial number, we can't tell.

We need the make of rifle.
With many rifles , the time period it was made can be determined by the serial number. It may be possible to contact the company , to gain this information .
i have a marlin 30-30 model 1893 ser# 2113xx can you tell me the value of it thanks rick
The original marlin model 55 shotgun was made from 1950-1965.This was before the gun control act of 1968 which mandated that all firearms have a serial number.
No way to tell for sure. Your rifle was made by Marlin for Sears, and is the Marlin 81- a very nice hunting grade rifle. In its different models, it was made from about 1937-1970. If it does not have a serial number, it was made before the 1968 Gun Control Act. They made a boatload of these, and there is no way to trace an exact date of manufacture.
It would help if you could tell me which "golden Marlin" model you have? Also condition, features, etc. Marlin made several guns with "Golden" on the barrel, but there should also be a model designation somewhere.
