A notary can notarize the signature if it is signed in front of them and done in the state where the notary is licensed. Where the signing person lives does not matter.

Can a Maryland notary notarized a Washington DC document?

No, a Maryland notary cannot notarize a Washington DC document. A notary public is only authorized to notarize documents within the state where they are commissioned. To notarize a Washington DC document, you would need to find a notary public who is commissioned in Washington DC.

Can a Nevada notary notarize a document while in another state?

Yes. It is customary for a person who owns real estate in another state to have documents affecting that real estate executed and acknowledged where they live. For example, a person who lives in Vermont and wants to sell their property in Massachusetts can sign the deed in Vermont before a Vermont notary who will then stamp and acknowledge the deed.

In Ohio can you notarize a court document for someone you're in a relationship with or who lives at your same address?

All states Notary Public laws are different but if the person is not related to you - you probably are legally able to do so. HOWEVER - this may not be the wisest thing to do especially if the document is challenged later.

Notary Class and Its Purpose?

A Notary or Notary Public is a person legally authorized by the state to witness the signing of documents, administer oaths, and certify documents. When a Notary witnesses the signing of a document, he certifies the parties signing are entering into the agreement of their own volition and that the persons are who they state they are.Notary classes train a person to become a Notary Public. Each state has specific requirements for the amount of class hours a person needs to become a Notary. For example, the state of California requires six hours of training, while other states require less. Check with your state for the required number of hours of training.A notary class can be taken in person, online or as a self-paced study course. In person classes can be found at community colleges, universities, and in some states, hotels and community centers. Online courses are offered through colleges and universities and can also be obtained from the National Notary Association (nationalnotary.org). The self-paced study course can be purchased at most major bookstores such as Barnes and Noble and Borders or ordered from the NNA. Whichever method is chosen to take the courses, and exam is required at the end of the course. The notary class consists of education about the law, ethical issues, what responsibilities a Notary Public has and what a Notary can and cannot do. This is especially important because in some states, Notaries can affix seals on documents that Notaries in other states cannot. For example, a Notary in West Virginia cannot oversee real estate transactions without a licensed attorney present, whereas a Notary in Pennsylvania can. In no state however can a notary affix a seal on a document that is involved in a criminal case.Once a person passes the notary class, he applies to become a notary for the state where he lives. The application is usually provided as part of the notary class materials. The applicant must fill out the application completely, pay the filing fee and mail both to the Secretary of State's office in which the applicant lives. Once the state approves the application, the applicant must secure a surety bond of at least $10,000 and can order his seal. Once the bond is paid, the new Notary must be sworn in by a current commissioned Notary Public.

Can doctors notarize documents?

"A bank" can't, but many banks do employ notaries public, and a notary public can notarize a signature. Whether the bank will allow this or not is kind of up to them, and you'd need to ask. Also, notaries themselves are allowed (and even required) to refuse to notarize documents under some circumstances.Note that what's being notarized is not "the will", but the signature. Notarization doesn't magically make a document "legal", it's just proof that a signature was done in front of the notary by someone who provided evidence (in the form of identification) that they were in fact the person they claimed to be.Some states either recommend or mandate that wills not be notarized, largely because of the public (mis)conception that notarization means any more than "yeah, the guy who signed it was really the guy who signed it" (in particular, notarization does not mean that the will is valid or conforms to state law; most notaries are specifically forbidden from giving legal advice unless they're also members of the state bar association). If you haven't spoken to an attorney yet, do so before having your will notarized. Many attorneys are also notaries public (or at least have one in their office), and since attorneys aremembers of the state bar association, they can give legal advice (and in fact are expected to do so). If it needs to be notarized, they can do it and you can save yourself a trip.

Is signing for a certified letter for someone who no longer lives at your address punishable?

If you sign your real name, no serious legal problem. You are only certifying that the letter was delivered to the correct address and you received it. The signature is sent to the sender and that person will know that you have it and not the person to whom it was sent. However, I think you have a moral obligation to get the letter delivered to the right person. It is not your property and you may be liable if you destroy it. If you forge the signature, then of course you are committing forgery which is a crime.
