The most important thing to realize is that performing and kind of Massage Therapy or bodywork CANNOT cause a male client to have an erection.

A Reflexology session involves working on energy meridians of the body that are located in the hands and feet. This, and or any other massage therapy or bodywork, may elicit a parasympathetic nervous system response that is involuntary and is referred to as the relaxation response. This is a natural and normal function of the body and at times, may result in a male experiencing an erection during a treatment session.

Please note that female clients also, on occasion, experience sexual arousal during the relaxation response associated with massage therapy and bodywork. This is also natural.

A word of encouragement: If your client, male or female, experiences arousal during a session, do not call attention to it, do not become embarrassed, and above all do not feel responsible for it. You did nothing to cause it.

If, on the other hand, so to speak, you are attempting to induce an erection in a male client, then you are outside the scope of your practice and behaving in an unethical manner.
