Animals are part of a big food chain - so when an animal becomes extinct, the animals in that area can't eat it and die off, or they become overpopulated with nothing to eat them. This affects the animal environment Hope this helped :P

Humans are probably the most common and prevalent example of animals that harm their surroundings. When people build cities and farms, they often cut down forests, dam streams, and introduce pollutants into the soil. In the case of cities, people also lay down asphalt and concrete - both of which harm the environment by preventing plants and animals from living in the altered area.

Other, non-human animals are also sometimes responsible for harming the environment around them. This is most often caused when animals from another area are suddenly introduced into a new environment. For example, when the brown tree snake (Boiga irregularis) was introduced to Guam in the 1950's, it proliferated over the entire island, preying on native birds and lizards. Because the birds and lizards native to Guam had not evolved to deal with the threat of tree snakes, a huge number of native animals died from this predation.

Animals in their native habitat rarely harm the environment around them in a significant, irreversible way. This is because the organisms that are native to a certain area have evolved over time to live in a relative balance with the environment around them.
