After a computer virus is able to spread, the virus programer is able to do other activities depending on his own goals. He might want to have your computer send emails to everyone in your address book. He might want to detect passwords and send the passwords back to himself. He might want to damage the computer in some way by writing damaging code into the operating system or onto the directory of the hard drive.

The most common way that Computer Viruses attack computer programs is by adding the virus code onto the end of the program so that each time the program is run, the virus code is run as well. The original program might be the operating system or some other application.

When the computer is busy running the virus code, it may not run the original program, or it may cause so much activity that the whole computer slows down or crashes.

How a computer attacks your computer is very advance so I will keep it simple.

A virus always starts off someone on the internet. They are mostly from the internet. Program and Screen Savers are the main target. They trick you to downloading them for free and then you are in big trouble. Once a malware has entered your computer. It attacks/corrupts your BIOS, Boot Sector and your software. Most of them just block the usage of software's and annoy you with pop ups like "This Program is infected".

All viruses needs a main target to run. Deleting it won't be the end of the virus. It can replicate! A worm is different! A worm has the software in itself. So it is not easy to stop. Don't think that a virus has one way in! Some viruses called Trojan Horses can create a "Backdoor". This means that the virus has a way of bypassing anything. By this time only Safe Mode can stop it if the virus has not blocked Boot Manager with a password.
