It is possible to have herpes but never give it to your partner. Using condoms, avoiding sex during and just before an outbreak, using antiviral medication, and time from the first outbreak all decrease the risk of transmission.
If you and/or your spouse had protection, mabey. Ask your doctor.
The initial outbreak of herpes is usually the most severe. A patient who has never had genital herpes or cold sores typically has the worst initial outbreak. A history of other herpes infections may make the initial outbreak less severe, as the body already has related antibodies. These patients may be more likely to have genital herpes without knowing it. As time goes on, outbreaks typically become less severe.

dormant
Never.
When a person gets chickenpox, the rash will go away but the virus is still in the body and becomes dormant. If the virus becomes active again in the nerves, it is then called herpes zoster or shingles. This usually occurs when a person becomes older, but only in a small percentage of the population. Herpes simplex causes the cold sores or genital herpes.
After a cold sore outbreak has been overcome it can take up to 14 days for the Herpes Simplex Virus (the virus that is constantly in the body and incurable that causes cold sores) to become dormant again. Within this period it is all to easy to spread the cold sore or for the outbreak to come back!
If you break a herpes blister, you may infect the finger that you used to break it with the virus. To avoid complications, it's best to leave the blisters alone.
Once a shingles outbreak has developed, it typically does not spread to other parts of the body. The rash almost never crosses from one side of the body to the other.
It's not something you can treat. The antibodies are the reaction of your immune system to the herpes infection. The herpes virus however, will never leave the body because it hides in the nerves, where the immune system can not atttack it. Once herpes, always herpes unfortunately
it goes dormant after 6 months
