If it's coming from a floppy you would first remove the clip on it. If it is not a floppy, or if you tried the previous step, then you should try removing the read-only attribute. In DOS, you would use the Attrib command, using -R and the filename as the parameters. In Windows, you go to the properties for that file and make sure it is not flagged as read-only. If it is, change it and select Apply or Ok.
If the disk is not physically write-protected, and if the read-only flag is not set, then the file is likely in use. You can install a tiny file extension called Unlocker to allow you to delete files that are locked by the system because they are being used.
To remove write protection from a file in Windows, first right click on the file to gain access to its properties. Then on the bottom of the box, uncheck the box that says read-only. This will allow the file to be edited by anyone who opens it.

Editing the file. ReWriteing the file. Modding the file. Many names can be used. But if you are talking about editing the file in a way to make it do things it shouldn't this would be called: Cracking the file. Hacking the file. Exploiting the file.
The same way you would remove any other named file. The only problems would arise if it was some how a system file.
Delete it...
Find where the file is stored on your computer and delete it. If you have the program, open it to the file/account. Choose save as. It will show where the file is. Using my computer, or explorer, go to the file and delete it. If you are using Quicken or another financial product, read the directions so that you only remove the one you want and not others.

The best way to remove adware from your computer is installing software, such as Norton, that will automatically search and remove adware. You can also try to remove it yourself if you know that the file is corrupted.
To remove files that appear to be unmovable, you need to close the program that is using that file. If this does not work, the only way to remove the file is to boot into safe mode using the F8 key and then go to the location of the file and remove it. By booting into safe mode, you bypass anything that could be using the file.
