You could have a High-School Diploma to start a Business but I don't think it's required though, I never graduated High School but to start a Business you have to know how to read, write and count... well most businesses do anyway, you would need a Casino Manager if your Hotel has a Casino, Managers for Restaurants, Assistant Managers, Head Chef, a Chairman and CEO that would be me for example if I were to start a Business, a Chief Operation's Officer, Hotel Manager, Casino Manager, the Head of Housekeping and you would need a Board Room in the Hotel to hold Meetings to see how things are going and if you need to spend money to improve your Business and also you have to make sure all the Guests at your Hotel have a great time so they they will drop by your Hotel again. Oh and I might not have mentioned this but you also need a Human Resources Department and last but certainly not least you need to have Assistant Managers for every Department, well I would anyway.
You should be able to find liability coverage from any Property & Casualty agent in CA excluding those that do only personal lines (home & auto). You are probably looking at two different types of liability coverage. First is general liability which coverage your business and second Errors 7 Omissions which covers your work product.
Ask your friends for a referral to a good local independent agency in your area. If you are new in business, you may be told that because of what you are doing and because you are new in business, you might have to be placed with a Surplus Lines (i.e., hard to place) carrier at higher rates. Check with several independent agencies, perferrably by asking for local referrals first. Agents are very busy and good ones are selective about who they insure. If you are referred by a valued client, they will respond more enthusiastically than if you just call or walk in. A "personal chef business" is not something they are used to finding coverage for, so you may encounter resistance. Go out of your way to explain what you do and what controls you employ to avoid liability claims. Your state insurance department is your best resource for insurance-related questions and concerns. Find information on insurance companies and agents, rate quotes and comparisons, insurance buying tips, claims filing information and much more!
