How can technology be helpful and harmful?

Technology is both Helpful, and Destructive. It is very helpful for mankind because everyone uses it. It can be used for Engineering, Science, Math and many other subjects. But on the other hand, Facebook, MySpace, and other websites like that can be destructive, If not used the right way. Some kids will stay on the computer all day and become more anti-social every day. So you can think of it which ever way you'd like. I hope this helped you.

Technology is used to do things we previously couldn't (or can't do without technology) and to take over things which we used to have to do by ourselves.

The first result of growing technology, helping us so we can do more things, can be good, for instance in sciences such as medicine or physics. A harmful side-effect can be unforeseen problems, like the immense pollution the industrial revolution brought on, or the terrible of effects (also pollution) of nuclear weapons. Another downside might arguably be that it gives us the power to do things we possibly shouldn't have, like - again - nuclear and biological weapons of mass destruction, or genetic engineering. My personal opionion on the latter is that such has little to do with technology, but rather with us as a species.

The second result of growing technology is that we let machines take over things we used to have to do by hand. A huge advantage of this is that it can make production and other processes faster, more accurate and more efficient. Agriculture has been revolutionized by technology, and seen our current numbers, that is quite a welcome progress. A downside to this could be that we loose touch with how things work, increase unemployment because machines are cheaper and better at their job than humans and we become lazy (as in unhealthy because of less physical activity).

Overall I think we can say the benefits of technology outweigh its downsides. We have greatly increased lifespan, quality of life, and sustainable population over the past centuries; and as long as we keep an eye on pollution and not getting too carried away (lazy or dangerous) with it, we should be fine.

Well I feel this question is very opinionated but ill try my best. I feel that technology is the worlds biggest problem and is a root to all of our issues since cave man times.It also opens up knew windows too but in the long run the new ideas will be taken advantaged of and become a negative thing. But issues and problems are what makes mankind human because we have a consensus and animals don't . So I guess with or without technology we will still have problems
