well to check transmission fluid on 2002 malibu, first jack up vehicle and get it as level as possible, start car and let run for approx. 3-5 minutes. go thru all gears starting in park and end in park! leave car running, get under car while running then take out plug in back of transmission pan.use something to catch fluid. if it pours out plug hole it is to full, but if it just seeps out it is ok!! WATCH FOR HOT FLUID!! to add to transmission, there is a red cap on top of tranny on drivers side approx.2 ft down, use a tranny funnel to fill to correct level. if changing fluid and filter it takes 7.4 qts, if in doubt catch fluid in pan and check to see how many qts. you need!! car must be running or the fluid will pour out.
