Not a clear way to post the question, will try to add detail here for the problem. 2000 Impala. Will ON OCCASSION not turn the engine over. This was also a problem when the car was new and under warranty, and eventually the dealership replaced the battery claiming a dead cell had been detected. At that time you could restart the car by jumping it. About 6 months ago it would not start, my wife had the car jumped, and it started. She purchased a new battery that day. A few weeks later it would not start, but when jumped would start again. Would not start again a month or so after that, dealership was close to the car, they came and checked it out, would up replacing a module. We also purchased a self contained jump starter system to keep in the car. This past weekend I was in the car. We stopped the car, and turned off the ignition. The boys got out of the back seat, and I wanted to talk to someone so put the ignition switch in ACC position and lowered the window. When we were ready to go, the car would not start. Cycled the ignition switch several times. No cranking at all. Lights, etc were fine. Hooked up the jump start system, would not crank. Verified jump start had power in it. Took key out of ignition several times, and tried to switch with no cranking. I finally pulled the key out. Then cycled COMPLETELY through the ignition position slowly, stopping at each setting to the START position, and it immediately cranked over. Since them started as normal with a fast turn of the key without a problem. Dealership says it will cost another $300 to replace the switch, and it "MIGHT" be the problem, no way to tell... HELP!!! I do not mind spending the money if I know it will fix it, but hate to just through another $300 at a maybe...

If the ignition switch locked up on a 2000 Chevy Impala how do you get it to unlock or reset?

I'm told this is a common problem that Chevrolet is aware of. Contact your local dealer. They should be able to replace the ignition switch and charge it back to Chevrolet as a warranty repair.

Your 02' impala clicks on every ignition try and wont start what seems to be the problem?

I had the same problem with an 01 Impala. Unfortunaltely the fix isn't cheap. For mine, it was the ignition switch combined with the BCM (Body Control Module). About a grand at the mechanic will fix it. However having said that, I made the repair, and the problem has started again only 6 months later. A quick diagnostic at the mechanic will specify what the problem is.

Where is the ignition switch on a 2000 Impala not the cylinder and key?

on most cars the ignitions switch, is generally loctaed in side the steering column or under the dash above where your legs are when you are sitting in the drivers seat. Just had to have my 2000 Impala's Key cyilinder switch replaced. My mechanic explained to me that the electrical Ignition switch is directly behind the key cylinder.

Where could you find a diagram for repairing ignition switch on 2000 Chevy Impala with 34 LT engine that remote was lost causing it to lockup?

Ignition switch doesn't lock up if you lose remote. Your problem is a bad ignition lock set and not the ignition switch it self. There are 2 pieces to the set up, 1 is the lock and 2 is the switch. If your key can go in and turn to the "acessories" or "on" position, then it can de replaced rather easily. If your key can't turn at all or won't go in,(lock set) it can still be changed but it's a little harder to do. You can do this with out replacing the ignition switch.
