MASH them or turn them into french fries and divide by weight; cut one into 3 equal parts and give 3 and 1/3 to each. Perhaps 'equally' can be interpreted to mean 'equally satisfied'. One of the three people may loathe potatoes, leaving 5 each for the remaining two people. Maybe one person has a need for 4 potatoes, and the others are more than happy with 3 each.
